What This Timesheet Calculator Does

This free timesheet calculator helps you total work hours for a full week. It subtracts lunch or break time, handles overnight shifts, calculates regular and overtime hours, and can estimate gross pay if you enter an hourly rate.

Net Work Hours = End Time − Start Time − Break Time

How Lunch Breaks Are Handled

Breaks are entered in minutes for each day. A 30-minute lunch break is entered as 30. A one-hour break is entered as 60. The calculator subtracts break time from the gross shift duration.

Overnight Shift Support

If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight. For example, a shift from 22:00 to 06:00 is calculated as 8 gross hours before breaks.

Overtime Options

Mode Meaning Typical use
Weekly overtime only Overtime starts after the weekly threshold. Example: overtime after 40 hours/week.
Daily overtime only Overtime starts after the daily threshold each day. Example: overtime after 8 hours/day.
Daily plus weekly overtime Counts daily overtime and then checks for extra weekly overtime without double-counting. Useful when both daily and weekly rules matter.
No overtime All worked time is treated as regular time. Simple time tracking.
This calculator is an estimate only. Payroll rules vary by country, state, contract, company policy, union agreement, and tax rules. Always verify real payroll with the applicable rules or a qualified payroll professional.

Example Weekly Timesheet

Monday: 09:00 to 17:30, 30 min break = 8.00 hours
Tuesday: 09:00 to 17:00, 30 min break = 7.50 hours
Wednesday: 09:15 to 18:00, 45 min break = 8.00 hours
Thursday: 09:00 to 17:30, 30 min break = 8.00 hours
Friday: 09:00 to 16:00, 30 min break = 6.50 hours

Total = 38.00 hours

What Counts as Break Time?

Break time is any unpaid time you want to subtract from the work shift. Common examples include lunch breaks, meal breaks, or unpaid personal breaks.

Common Mistakes

  • Entering break time in hours instead of minutes.
  • Forgetting to subtract lunch breaks.
  • Using weekly overtime rules when the workplace also has daily overtime rules.
  • Assuming this calculator replaces official payroll policy.
  • Entering overnight shifts without checking that the result makes sense.

Frequently Asked Questions
